US presses Pakistan over Mumbai

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said that Pakistan must act "fully and transparently" in efforts to bring the Mumbai attackers to justice.

"Pakistan has a special responsibility to do so," she told reporters in Delhi.

India says the attackers, who killed at least 188 people, have links to Pakistan, which denies any role.

The chief minister of the southern Indian state of Kerala has apologised for insensitive remarks about a commando killed in the Mumbai attacks.

VS Achuthanandan said he regretted comments that had "caused anguish" to the family of Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan.

Mr Achuthanandan had tried to visit the family home in Bangalore but the major's father shut the door on him.

Developing nations welcomed Obama's plan for tougher goals than President George W. Bush but said Obama's target of cutting U.S. greenhouse gas emissions back to 1990 levels by 2020 was not enough to avoid dangerous global warming.

Pakistan parties unite on Mumbai

Political leaders in Pakistan have joined forces to condemn the attacks in Mumbai but rejected "hasty allegations" made against their country.

The resolution concluded a meeting of the leaders of nearly all Pakistan's parties and was a rare example of unity among fractious politicians.

The resolution said they shared India's grief after the Mumbai attacks.
